About MFG
Our Story
Minnesota Flyers Gymnastics, (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization,) completed the initial construction of a new gymnastics facility in January 2000. We are located in Detroit Lakes, MN. Our purpose was to house a gymnastics club, all regional gymnastic programs and events, USAG meets, high school meets, gymnastic camps, community education programs, and programs for non-profit youth groups.
In order to build our facility, Minnesota Flyers fundraised $500,000 and borrowed $100,000 from the City of Detroit Lakes, (of which we have repayed in full). MFG then donated the building to the City of Detroit Lakes.
We are continuing to make building improvements. The front lobby is slated to be tiled this fall. We are also in the process of replacing the spring floor.
Due to budget constraints and being a non-profit organization, every fundraising dollar counts! Please help us and our community kids by participating in our fundraising events, volunteering your time, and supporting our gaming sites!
Thank you so much!!
Our Goals
MFG strives to help children develop their maximum potential through recreation, physical fitness, and other productive leisure activities.
The training of gymnastics crosses over to other sports and also provides life-long benefits. Agility, flexibility, and strength are a benefit to any sport and general fitness. Our hope is that by participating in MFG activities, children build confidence and the skills needed to be successful in everything they do.
MFG also has a mission of providing gymnastics training to "all children".
To accomplish this, we have set up a scholarship program for children whose families couldn't otherwise afford gymnastics training. We also created a class for children with special needs in School District 22.
What We Do
Minnesota Flyers' activities service children 18 months to 18 years of age through recreational classes, Training Teams, and Competitive Teams. The largest number of our gymnasts participate in recreational classes on a weekly basis.
We also lease space to hold all School District 22's gymnastic programs including Middle School programs, High School practices, and High School meets.
MFG also offers open gym times for unstructured recreational and leisure time to allow children to mingle constructively with friends.
Our programs have been very successful and continue to grow. Each year we service over 700 different children from Detroit Lakes and surrounding communities.
